While there are limited historical records about its origins, its name may have come from &#8220;taklub,&#8221; a bamboo trap used for catching crabs and shrimp, suggesting that early settlers engaged in fishing as a livelihood.<\/p><p>Siquijor Island was first sighted by the Spaniards in 1565 during Miguel L\u00f3pez de Legazpi\u2019s expedition. They called it &#8220;Isla del Fuego&#8221; (Island of Fire) due to the glowing fireflies in its molave trees. Before Spanish colonization, the island was known as &#8220;Katugasan,&#8221; derived from &#8220;tugas,&#8221; the local term for molave trees, which were abundant at the time.<\/p><p>Over the years, Barangay Tacloban has remained a quiet yet vital part of Siquijor\u2019s culture and economy.
